The Good, the Bad, the 'Post,' and the 'Core'

Genres: what do they really mean beyond the basic labels?  I've seen so many different genres that it makes my head spin.  Ultimately, they're all just unique variations of their parent genres, right?  It would really rustle my jimmies if someone could enlighten me on this.

I hate the moment when my guitar strings finally become unplayable.  Yet, at the same time, I relish the time I spend cleaning, polishing, and waxing my instrument.  Everyone has to do it, so we might as well make the best of it.

A Brief Introduction

June 2nd of 2012 marks the beginning of my first blog: Carpe Metallum.  Welcome to my world, folks.

To start things off, I'll translate "Carpe Metallum" for you: it's Latin for "Seize the Metal."  As you may have guessed, observing my lovingly crafted collage, this blog will include my thoughts on the hard rock and metal genres.  My favorite bands are all from the past, but I'll try to look at some newer bands as well.

For eight years I have been playing the guitar.  I didn't do much with my instrument until I had gotten into bands such as Black Sabbath, AC/DC, and Metallica: all fundamental guitar-rock groups.  They inspired me to improve my guitar playing.  Here I am now, writing music, learning classic licks, and blogging my heart out.  Well... this isn't where I expected I would be, but it's better than MTV!
